“Christmas in a Shoebox Project

Central Chapter members facilitated a donation drive of items needed at Wiconi Wawokiya, Inc. (Project SAFE) in Fort Thompson. Wiconi Wawokiya, Inc. is a safe haven for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. They provide services such as crisis counseling, shelter, advocacy and more. Within the organization is Children’s SAFE Place, and advocacy center geared to address the needs of children subjected to violence as victims or as witnesses and their non-offending family members. The ‘Christmas in a Shoebox’ project was comprised of several shoeboxes filled with gift items for the children, wrapped up to be given as holiday gifts. Toys, coats, gloves and hats were some of the gift items. Toiletries and a monetary gift from Central Chapter was also donated to Wiconi Wawokiya, Inc.
