November Message from the President...
Greetings from Aberdeen! The weather is getting colder up here and I finally had to dig out my winter coat and gloves. That part is no fun, this is also a great time of year to reflect on what blessings we have and what we are thankful for.
I am thankful for a hard working SDCA Board! The Board of Directors met on October 26th for our annual fall meeting. We voted to approve updated versions of our Fiscal Policies. In addition, we approved a Chapter Checklist that will assist future presidents of Chapters, providing them with a guideline as to what “chapter presidents do” a question that I often receive. ☺ The board also received updates on other projects in the works, such as an update on our by-laws, new membership benefits, and our conference.
I am thankful for volunteers! I sent out a call for volunteers to review conference program submissions, and I response I received was overwhelming. Right now, my committee is reviewing program submissions. Once our programming is chosen, the list of presentations will be posted on our SDCA website. This will allow you to see what topics will be presented on during conference and will hopefully, get each of you thinking about registering for our annual event.
I am thankful for those who work hard for SDCA! Our conference committee, led by Doug Hoisington, continues to work on setting up the schedule and entertainment for conference. Our government relations committee, led by Jill Stephenson, did some great work in support of Jolene’s Law. In addition, we are in the process of hiring a lobbyist and are looking forward to a successful Day on the Hill in January. The elections and nominations committee, led by Stacy Solsaa, will also be opening up nominations for the 2015-2016 President Elect of SDCA. I would encourage each of you to consider putting your name forward for this position. The life experience as well as the professional growth is beyond anything I can describe. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions and I will assist you in any way possible.
I am thankful for each of you! Without our members, SDCA would not exist. Thank you for continuing to support this organization, whose function is to advocate for all counselors across our great state.
PS- The year’s lowest rates for conference registration end December 1st!!! www.sdcounseling.org.
