September Message from the President...
September is here! I have to admit, this is my favorite month of the year for a variety of reasons. School is back in session, and like many of you, I enjoy the structure that it brings to my day and to the community. September also brings the changing of the seasons, football games, and educational opportunities through SDCA!
Our Ethics blog is up and running! Each month our Ethics Chair, Erin Stolsmark, will provide an ethical dilemma for discussion. This will help to keep you fresh on important topics as well as gain some insight in to what other professionals do in certain situations. Visit the blog now at http://sdcaethics.blogspot.com/
Friday, September 12th, David Kaplan, ACA Professional Affairs Representative, will be in Sioux Falls to provide training on the latest revisions to the ACA Ethical Code. This training will take place at the Ramkota Hotel and will provide participants with the four hours of Ethical training required for South Dakota licensure. In addition, Ben Kohls from Avera Behavioral Health, will be presenting on Expressive Strategies for Counseling Children and Adolescents. This workshop is too good to miss! Please visit our website at www.sdcounseling.org to print off the registration form for this event.
The Call for Program has been posted on our website for the 2015 SDCA Conference. Proposals are due by October 31, 2014. Get those proposals in now! Presentation spots are limited and we want to provide our members with a variety of topics. Some topics that have been requested include self-harm, working with depression, co-occurring disorders, stress management, adult ADHD, and working with the elderly. If you would like additional suggestions as to presentation topics, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SDCA is very focused on providing more for our members. We are always open to feedback and suggestions. Don’t be shy! Let us know what you would like SDCA to do for you! Have an amazing month!
2013-2015 SDCA President
